Bacino di Pesca Nr. 4 extends along the Piave River, stretching from the north of Centro Cadore Lake specifically from its confluence with the Ansiei stream (at the “Tre Ponti” landmark) down to the south of the lake, reaching the northern border of the Municipality of Ospitale di Cadore (at Rivalgo). The district encompasses the following municipalities: Calalzo, Domegge, Lorenzago, Lozzo, Pieve, Vigo, and Perarolo (excluding the Boite stream valley within the Perarolo territory). Permitted fishing zones are clearly marked by white-background signs indicating “Bacino di Pesca Nr. 4“, while no-fishing zones are designated by yellow-background signs.

Province of Belluno – Fishing District No. 4

1. Mandatory Documents

To fish in the waters of the Province of Belluno and within Bacino di Pesca No. 4, anglers must possess the following:

o fish legally in the waters of the Province of Belluno and within Fishing Basin No. 4, you must possess the following:

  • A valid photo ID.
  • A temporary fishing permit issued by the Bacino di Pesca No. 4 concessionaire.
  • A Type B Fishing License, which consists of your regional tax payment receipt.

Important details regarding the Type B License:

  • Exemptions: Residents of the Veneto region who are under 18 or over 70 years of age are exempt from the payment requirement.
  • License format: In Veneto, the payment receipt serves as your official fishing license; no physical license card is issued.
  • Validity and Cost: The fee is €34.00, and it is valid for one year from the date of payment.

2. Mandatory Permit Completion Requirements

  1. Before commencing any fishing activity, anglers must fill out their permit (either in paper or digital format) using indelible black or blue ink, specifying the following details:

a) Month and day
b) Fishing zone
c) Number of salmonids kept, recorded immediately upon retention, specifying the species
d) The specific zone where the fish was caught and retained
e) Whether the retained catches belong to the morning or afternoon session
f) Retained catches of:

  • Whitefish, carp, and tench (to be recorded immediately upon retention).
  • European perch (quota-regulated species), to be recorded at any pause or cessation of fishing, even if temporary.
  1. Any additional remarks or notes requested by the regulations must also be properly recorded.

3. Exemptions and Additional Obligations

  1. Within the salmonid-classified waters of Bacino di Pesca No. 4, anglers holding a valid membership with one or more Fishing Districts in the Province of Belluno are exempt from holding the Regional Fishing Card.
  2. It is mandatory to carry your annual association membership booklet at all times.
  3. Access to special Catch & Release zones (Zone “P”) and No-Kill zones (Zone “O”) requires a special permit issued exclusively by authorized personnel of the Bacino di Pesca Nr. 4

4. Return of Temporary Permits

  1. Anglers who have purchased a temporary permit are strictly required to return it:
  • Directly to the point of sale where it was purchased, or
  • By mail (the postmark will serve as proof of the date of return) to the following address: A.S.D. Pescatori Sportivi Centro Cadore – Via IV Novembre 11, C.P. 6 – 32040 Grea di Cadore (Belluno), Italy.

Permits must be returned no later than October 31st of the current year to avoid the penalties and sanctions provided for non-compliance.

Regulations on the Use of Fishing Tackle, Baits, and Lures

a) For fishing activities within the waters of Bacino di Pesca No. 4 (for the southern Piave River – Zone “G”, see paragraph m; for Zones “P” and “O”, see specific local regulations), the use of a single rod is permitted, with or without a reel, equipped with a single hook featuring a single point. The following configurations are permitted:
Artificial lures: a maximum of two hooks, which may feature single or multiple points.
Multi-fly rigs (Moschiera or Camolera): a maximum of three hooks.
Fly fishing (fly line): a single artificial fly only.

b)The use of natural dead bait (“deadbait”) is permitted only from June 1st and must not exceed 9 cm in length.

c) Artificial lures exceeding 9 cm in length may only be used starting from June 1st.

d) Artificial lures exceeding 9 cm in length must always be preceded by a wire leader (steel), a braided leader, or a fluorocarbon leader. This restriction applies exclusively to Centro Cadore Lake – Zone “B”.

e) For all artificial lures exceeding 9 cm in length, a maximum of two single-pointed, barbless hooks is permitted.

f) The use of the fish landing tool known as a “BocaGrip” (lip-gripper) is strictly prohibited.

g) Hooks used for fishing, with either natural bait or artificial lures, must not have a hook gape (the width of the bend) exceeding 2.5 cm.

h) Hooks used with natural baits that have a hook gape exceeding 1.5 cm must be barbless.

i) For natural baits, only single-pointed hooks are permitted. Treble hooks and any multi-pointed hooks are strictly prohibited.

j) While actively fishing, it is strictly prohibited to possess any unauthorized natural baits at the fishing site.

k) The use of two fishing rods is permitted exclusively within Centro Cadore Lake.

l) In Centro Cadore Lake, specifically and exclusively for European perch fishing, if the angler uses a single rod, it may be rigged with a maximum of three hooks, provided they are tipped with the artificial lures locally and commonly known as “ciucci”.

m) In the Marble Trout protection zones (southern Piave River – Zone “G”), fishing is permitted with a single rod equipped with a single barbless hook. The hook may feature a single or multiple points (multiple points are allowed for artificial lures only).

n) Throughout Bacino di Pesca No. 4, if an angler must or wishes to release salmonids, grayling, European perch, carp, tench, or northern pike (quota-regulated species), it is mandatory to cut the fishing line without pulling or tearing out the hook if it was used with natural bait and is not visibly protruding from the fish’s mouth.

o) The use of a landing net, with a maximum diameter or maximum side length of 50 cm, is permitted exclusively as an auxiliary tool for retrieving a fish that is already hooked.

p) In Centro Cadore Lake, when fishing for northern pike, anglers are required to use an unhooking mat to support the captured fish when brought ashore for unhooking.

q) The possession of a fish finder (sonar device) is strictly prohibited while fishing and/or when carrying fishing equipment along the banks of all watercourses within Bacino di Pesca Nr. 4.

Fishing Closure Periods (Closed Seasons)

1) Fishing or retention of the following species is strictly prohibited during the specified periods:

  • Marble trout / Hybrids: Retention is strictly prohibited (Catch & Release only year-round).
  • Brown trout, Rainbow trout, Arctic char: Prohibited from the last Monday of September until the first Saturday of March.
  • Grayling: Retention is strictly prohibited (Catch & Release only year-round).
  • Northern pike: Retention is strictly prohibited (Catch & Release only year-round).
  • European perch: From April 1st to May 31st.
  • Bleak (Alborella): From June 1st to July 31st.
  • Tench: From April 1st to June 30th.
  • Carp: From April 1st to June 30th.
  • Barbel, Pigo, Savetta, Minnow, Bullhead: Retention is strictly prohibited for all these species (Catch & Release only year-round).
  • Crayfish (River or Lake): Retention is strictly prohibited (Harvesting of this species is completely banned).

2) Any fish caught during its specific closed season or restriction period must be unhooked and released immediately with the utmost care and caution.

3) Night fishing is strictly banned: within waters classified as salmonid (trout) waters, fishing is entirely prohibited from one hour after sunset until one hour before sunrise.

4) Fishing is strictly prohibited on Tuesdays (The entire district is closed to fishing all day).

5) All recreational and sport fishing activities within the waters of Fishing District No. 4 are completely closed from the last Monday of September until the first Saturday of March.

6) For the 2026 Fishing Season:
• Opening Day: Sunday, March 8th
• Closing Day: Sunday, September 27th

Minimum Size Limits for Retention

The catch and retention of the following species are subject to the minimum length limits specified below:

a) Brown trout: 22 cm (Zone G: Retention is strictly prohibited)

b) Marble trout / Hybrids: Retention is strictly prohibited (Catch & Release only)

c) Tench: 40 cm

d) Arctic char: 25 cm

e) Grayling: Retention is strictly prohibited (Catch & Release only)

f) European perch: 15 cm

g) Whitefish (Coregone): 30 cm

h) Northern pike: Retention is strictly prohibited (Catch & Release only)

i) Chub (Cavedano): 25 cm

j) Lake trout: 35 cm

k) Rainbow trout: No minimum size limit

l) Barbo: vietato trattenerlo

m) Carp: 40 cm

n) Savetta and Pigo: Retention is strictly prohibited

Note: Total fish length must be measured in a straight line from the tip of the snout to the outermost tip of the caudal (tail) fin.

Permitted Catch and Bag Limits

1. General Provisions

Fishing is permitted strictly subject to the specific species, daily, and seasonal limits outlined below.

2. Species-Specific Limits

2.1 Salmonids

a) Rainbow trout: Within the section of the Piave River designated as Zone G, only the catch and retention of rainbow trout is permitted.

b) Marble trout and hybrids: Retention is strictly prohibited (Catch & Release only).

c) Brown trout and Rainbow trout: Maximum of 5 fish per day per angler. Within Zone G, the retention of brown trout is strictly prohibited.

d) Arctic char: Maximum of 10 fish per season, with a daily limit of no more than 1 fish per day

e) Grayling: Retention is strictly prohibited (Catch & Release only).

2.2 Other Species

f) European perch: Maximum of 300 fish per season, with a daily limit of no more than 30 fish per day.

g) Northern pike: Retention is strictly prohibited (Catch & Release only).

h) Carp: Maximum of 10 fish per season, with a daily limit of no more than 1 fish per day.

i) Tench: Maximum of 10 fish per season, with a daily limit of no more than 1 fish per day.

j) Minnow, Bullhead, Pigo, Savetta, Barbel, and Crayfish (River or Lake): Retention is strictly prohibited for all these species.

3. Overall Aggregate Catch Limits

k) Seasonal salmonid limit: In compliance with the regulations in paragraphs a, b, c, d, and e, a maximum aggregate of 120 salmonid specimens per season per angler is permitted.

l) Daily salmonid limit: In compliance with the regulations in paragraphs a, b, c, d, and e, a maximum aggregate of 5 salmonid specimens per day per angler is permitted.

m) Total daily weight limit: In compliance with the regulations in paragraphs a through j, a maximum aggregate weight of 5 kg of fish per day per angler is permitted. Within this total, no more than an aggregate of 1 kg of tench and bleak (alborella) combined may be retained. This weight limit may only be exceeded if the final fish caught pushes the total weight over the 5 kg threshold.

Regulations on the Use of Baits, Lures, and Groundbaits

a) The use of both natural baits and artificial lures is permitted.

b) Any natural bait rigged on the hook must not exceed 9 cm in total length.

c) Fishing with the following is strictly prohibited:
• Live baitfish (baitfish are only permitted on the hook when dead).
• Blowfly larvae (commonly known as maggots / bigattino).
• Fish roe (fish eggs) or any synthetic imitations thereof.
• Animal blood and offal (animal entrails).

d) The use of natural dead bait (“deadbait”) is permitted only from June 1st and must not exceed 9 cm in length.

e) Artificial lures exceeding 9 cm in length may only be used starting from June 1st.

f) The possession of live baitfish at the fishing site is strictly prohibited.

g) Baitfish may only be used on the hook when dead.

h) The only permitted species for use as dead baitfish are exclusively: bleak (alborella), rudd (scardola), South European roach (triotto), mackerel, and sardine. The use of any other baitfish species is strictly prohibited.

i) The use of boilies, tiger nuts, and maize/corn (or any derivatives thereof) as either bait or groundbait is strictly prohibited from April 1st to June 30th.

j) While actively fishing, the possession of unauthorized natural baits at the fishing site is strictly prohibited.

k) Any form of groundbaiting or chumming is strictly prohibited within all waters of Bacino di Pesca No. 4

General Prohibitions and Mandatory Requirements

a) Fishing using explosives, electrical currents (electro-fishing), or any toxic or stunning substances is strictly prohibited.

b) Fishing is strictly prohibited within 10 meters of fish passes (fish ladders), dams, locks, and water pumping stations, as well as within 30 meters of overhead power lines.

c) The use of electric motors (trolling motors) while actively fishing is strictly prohibited.

d) Ice fishing (fishing through or on frozen water surfaces) is strictly prohibited.

e) Fishing in drying watercourses, receding waters, or stranded pools is strictly prohibited.

f) The use or possession of fish finders, sonar devices, or any other electronic fish-locating instruments along the banks is strictly prohibited.

g) Littering or discarding fish carcasses, leftover bait, tackle, or any other waste materials along the shorelines and banks is strictly prohibited.

h) Fishing from bridges or within designated fish sanctuaries (biological protection zones) is strictly prohibited.

i) Foul hooking (snagging/snatch fishing), fishing with the aid of artificial light sources, and spearfishing (underwater fishing) are strictly prohibited.

j) Within Zone “P” and Zone “O”, anglers are strictly required to possess a special permit issued by authorized personnel.

k) Commercial fishing is strictly prohibited; only recreational and sport angling are permitted.

l) It is mandatory to return all temporary fishing permits no later than October 31st of the current year.

Enforcement, Inspections, and Reporting

a) Anglers are strictly required to present all mandatory documents, their current catch, and all fishing tackle or equipment upon request to any authorized enforcement officer.

b) Anglers must permit the inspection of all fishing tackle, equipment, bags, and storage containers (such as creels or coolers).
